My Project Planner – Tile Edition is really the first step in any installation. It will help guide you with the materials, supplies and tools that you will need for your installation. It also covers how to estimate how much materials and supplies you will need.

You will learn how to measure so you can add and subtract for waste. There are also a bunch of checklists in there so you can be sure you have everything you need. So I recommend starting there first!!

I am assuming that the existing floor is already removed at this point or you are starting with a brand new floor. This is where we will begin the installation steps for installing floor tile.

Step 1-

Prepping the floor before installing cement board-

In this step I will show you how to cut door jambs and how to find humps and dips in the floor that will need some attention.

This will be the same method whether your floor is a wood sub floor or a concrete floor.

Step 2 –

Installing cement board-

In this step there are several types of cement board out there on the market. I have videos on two of them-Durock and Hardi Backer. I will just tell you now that I highly recommend using Durock. It is very user friendly and it is high quality. Here are the videos to watch-

Step 3-

Layout(creating a grid)–

This is the foundation of a tile installation. This method that you are about to learn is going to help you in so many ways.

it provides you a visible guide to use while installing the tile
with this you will be able to make accurate cuts with simple measuring
you will be able to keep the tile straight during the installation

This is where you will spend some time learning. Don’t let this step overwhelm you. Watch the videos and you will understand how simple this step really is. If you have any questions, please ask!

Step 4-

Measuring for tile cuts using the grid-

Now that you have built the grid, it is time to begin making your tile cuts. This is really a simple step now that you have done all the hard work. Be sure to watch my videos on cutting tile. I will show several ways that you can do this and you can choose which of these you want to use.

Step 5 –

Installing tile using the grid-

Installing tile with the grid is also going to be very easy. Is all you need to do is follow the lines that you have snapped on the floor with the chalk line. Again, you have already done the hard work and the grid is going to help you get through this step quickly. Let’s mix up some thin set and get going.

Step 6 –

Grouting-

Congratulations! You made it! Now it is time to grout that floor. This is the final step and I am really proud of you. Watch this video on grouting.
