Crumbly spots in shower pan
I posted this question on the Facebook group, but there doesn’t seem to be much traffic there, and I’m still hoping for an answer:
My shower pan turned out a little crumbly in spots. I guess my sand mix was a little dry, or maybe I didn’t work fast enough. I did the snowball test and it seemed ok. Anyway, after 3 days and vacuuming the dust up there were some craters pulling out and it was pretty sandy (photo 1), so I decided to skim coat with thinset (photo 2). The thinset could have been thinner too, because that peeled off the sand in a few spots.
So, is this sand bed going to hold tile?
